Patient safety nonprofit video tells real people's stories of health care experiences and empowerment
Wantagh, NY, March 19, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Everyone who has suffered harm from medical error or unsafe clinical practices has a story to tell. PULSE of NY, the nonprofit patient safety advocacy and education group, is trying out crowdfunding to produce a short video that tells a few of those stories and shows how its educational and community support programs actually worked to promote safe medical outcomes for these patients.
The group has launched an appeal to raise at least $2000 for the project using GoFundMe.com as its platform. See the campaign here: http://www.gofundme.com/na5228.
"When patients and families have a voice, they become partners on the road to improvement."

PULSE founder and President Ilene Corina, says, “When patients and families have a voice, they become partners on the road to improvement. These real-world examples explain clearly the many ways ordinary people can contribute to keeping themselves and their loved ones safe.”
“As many as 440,000 people die in the U.S. each year as a result of preventable medical error,” adds project coordinator David Halperin. “That’s unacceptable. The good news is that individuals and their families can do a lot to reduce the risk of a negative outcome. Awareness of common risks, better communication with medical professionals and a sense of mutual respect all allow patients and their families to protect themselves and improve the results of their care. These are stories we want to tell in our video, and we ask the public to donate generously in support.”
If the crowdfunding effort is successful, the video will debut at PULSE of NY’s Spring Symposium on April 20, and will be used as a teaching resource in PULSE’s ongoing programs.
